Nature, culture and architecture never fail to impress locals and visitors alike. The Hanseatic cities of Stralsund and Wismar as well as the beech forests in Jasmund National Park and Serrahn in Müritz National Park are already UNESCO World Heritage Sites. In 2023, Schwerin also applied for the title with the Residence Ensemble. The decision was made in New Delhi on 27th July. The effort was worth it. The ensemble of residences convinced the committee and is now a UNESCO World Heritage.

The Paralympic Games took place in Paris from August 28 to September 8. Athletes from all over the world took part in exciting competitions and impressed with their top sporting performances. Two female athletes and one male athlete from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern also took part in the games in the French capital. The rower Marcus Klemp competed from Rostock and the track and field athlete Lindy Ave from Greifswald. Ramona Brussig from Schwerin took part in the judo competitions.
