Where health becomes a source of strength – and exercise creates enthusiasm

A rowboat glides across a river at sunrise.

Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is more than just a place to take a deep breath — a place to truly recharge. Here, modern medicine meets the healing power of nature, and athletic ambition meets deep relaxation. Between the Baltic Sea beach and the healing forest, a health destination is taking shape unlike any other.

Healthcare has a long tradition here – and a bright future

Ever since Heiligendamm became Germany's first seaside resort, our state has been considered a pioneer in health and recreation. Today, centuries of knowledge meet state-of-the-art infrastructure: from therapeutic mud and chalk treatments to cutting-edge medicine and innovative care networks.

Salty Baltic Sea air, sparkling lakes, Europe's first spa and healing forests – Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is perfect for regeneration, prevention, and well-being.

Full Steam Ahead — Building the Healthcare Region of the Future

The “Healthcare Industry Master Plan 2020” and its continuation in the “Master Plan 2030” position MV as a pioneer, with strong focus areas including life sciences, healthcare services, healthy ageing, nutrition, and health tourism.

Active, Outdoors, Boundless — The Whole Region as Your Arena

Here, exercise is not a chore, but a privilege. With 1,900 kilometers of coastline, over 2,000 lakes, and an extensive network of rivers, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is a paradise for water sports: sailing, surfing, swimming, paddling – nature becomes a playground here. For example, when an international SailGP event was held on Rügen for the first time in 2025.

Nor is there any shortage of activity on land: golf courses in stunning settings, cycling and riding trails through tree-lined avenues, past stately homes and all the way down to the sea. More than 3,400 kilometers of riding trails offer pure adventure for horse lovers.

A Stage for Champions

Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is both a home and a launchpad for elite athletic achievement. Whether it's the International Jumping Day in Rostock, Warnemünder Woche, the Sail GP in Sassnitz, which will take place for the first time in 2025, or the IRONMAN 70.3 on the island of Rügen – this is where performance meets passion. Recent successes underscore this: track and field athlete Lindy Ave from Neubrandenburg was runner-up in the 400 metres at the 2024 World Championships. In 2025, she secured the bronze medal. Ingo Köhn and Andreas Höhne from the Schwerin Yacht Club were European champions in the 20-foot class at the 2024 European Championships in Berlin.

Niels McDonald from the Schwerin Tennis Club won the junior title at the French Open in 2025. Max Jimmi Werner from Neubrandenburg became German junior champion in BMX freestyle in 2023, Ole Ayke Sterning from Stalsund won the German championship title and the world championship silver medal in wrestling in 2024, and Finn-Liam Petterson from Dassow impressed in track cycling in 2025.

Schweriner SC is also shining: the women's volleyball team are German champions for 2025, and track cyclist Lea Friedrich from Dassow raised the bar in 2024 with two titles and a new track record. The successes of our Paralympic athletes also show that talent is nurtured here too.
