Hanse Sail 2026 in Rostock

From 6th to 9th August 2026, Rostock's harbour will host the 35th edition of the Hanse Sail – one of the biggest sail events in Germany and one of the largest gatherings of traditional sailing ships anywhere in the world. Running since 1991, the festival has grown into Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's signature summer event, drawing around a million visitors each year to the banks of the Warnow and the Baltic coast.

A fleet like nowhere else

At the heart of the Hanse Sail are more than 100 tall ships, traditional vessels and museum ships from across Europe. Proud sail training ships, lovingly restored windjammers and historic steamers line up along the quays of Rostock's city harbour and Warnemünde's passenger pier, where the larger windjammers take their berths alongside the cruise liners. Many of these ships open their decks to visitors throughout the weekend.

Sailing for everyone

What sets the Hanse Sail apart is how close you can get to the action. Step aboard a tall ship, join an evening cruise with the city harbour lit up after dark, or watch the regattas off Warnemünde – one of Germany's finest sailing areas. Whether you're a seasoned sailor or have never set foot on a deck, there's a way to feel the wind in the rigging.

Where tradition meets the sea

With sailing, music and Rostock's unmistakable harbour atmosphere, the Hanse Sail brings together people from all over the world – and there's something for everyone, whatever your age.
