A Region of opportunity and connections

Two Liebherr employees stand in front of a large crane and monitor the processes.

Strategically positioned, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern combines strong production capacity with excellent transport links. Our modern ports and maritime infrastructure provide direct access to international markets — setting new standards for innovation and efficiency.

Diversity and growth define our economic landscape: established companies meet a dynamic start-up scene. Small and medium-sized enterprises, cutting-edge research, and state-of-the-art technology work hand in hand — this is where a genuine pioneering spirit, "Made in MV," takes hold.

Science and industry make targeted use of the region's natural strengths — from sustainable energy and the bioeconomy to medical technology and biotechnology. Around 20% of the workforce is employed in the resilient healthcare industry, with close ties to innovation hubs in Scandinavia.

From MV to the world

Our technology is in high demand. Mobile harbour cranes weighing several tonnes set sail from Rostock harbour bound for Vietnam, Brazil, or Australia. Liebherr manufactures precision technology that is used on every continent. Precision port logistics — produced on Germany's most beautiful coastline.

The maritime industry is a cornerstone of our economy: 13 port locations link us to global trade routes. We ship precision rather than volume on these routes. State-of-the-art marine technology, custom-made products, or system solutions — "Made in MV" means progress.

Globally connected, regionally rooted — and always with a sense of home. In MV, success means not only markets and machines, but also proximity and nature. Here, career and quality of life go hand in hand — for you and your family.

Regional products for global appetites

In agriculture too, quality and sustainability take centre stage. The fertile soils of our region yield high-quality, regional produce, cultivated using state-of-the-art technology and expert farming methods. Over 4,600 farms work these soils — more than 1,100 of them organic, farming almost 15 percent of the usable land according to strict organic standards.

This relationship creates real synergies: farmers benefit from reliable routes to market, while the food industry gains access to regional raw materials of the highest quality. Our local specialties are in demand worldwide. Companies such as Anklam Extrakt, Arla Foods, and Biosanica export their products to European and international markets — supported by the industrial hubs in Ludwigslust, Demmin, and on Rügen.

As the strongest network in the agricultural and food industry in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the AMV marketing organisation successfully unites production, processing, and marketing across more than 130 partners.

Science and business in the same boat

Our companies are growing, developing innovative software, and creating solutions built for the future. The digital economy is booming — and creating highly skilled jobs. Universities and universities of applied sciences are training specialists who work on applied, interdisciplinary research projects. Knowledge transfers directly into the economy — a locational advantage that investors value.

Our six Digital Innovation Centres (DIZs) and rural co-working spaces drive digitalisation and innovation, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises. From first idea to company launch, support is on hand in the form of expertise, networks, and modern infrastructure.

Renewables on the rise

Coal is a thing of the past. In Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, almost 80 percent of electricity generated here comes from wind, solar, water, and biomass — a record high in Germany. Offshore wind farms such as EnBW Baltic I off the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula harness the power of the Baltic Sea. Solar installations benefit from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's exceptional hours of sunshine, providing additional green electricity. A test site for the next generation of wind turbines is being developed off Rostock-Warnemünde.

The close integration of research and industry is supported by specialist courses at Stralsund University of Applied Sciences and Wismar University of Applied Sciences. These institutions train experts in electrical energy systems and renewable technologies — a crucial factor in driving the energy transition in north-east Germany.
