Mecklenburg-Vorpommern stands for a way of life in which innovation, sustainability and quality of life combine in a truly special way. Six districts and two independent cities form the Land to Live In – shaped by a unique natural landscape between the Baltic Sea, Lake Müritz and Lake Schaalsee. Three national parks, six nature parks and three biosphere reserves make this one of Germany's most diverse natural spaces. Rare species such as eagles, cranes and otters call this place home, while high-quality food is produced here and the wellness and healthcare sector is paving the way to becoming a "land of health".
At the same time, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is a dynamic hub for innovation. Research institutions, universities, and businesses work closely together—from large corporations and small and medium-sized enterprises to creative startups. In strong future-oriented sectors such as the energy sector, the maritime industry, offshore wind, the healthcare sector, the bioeconomy, tourism, and agriculture, new technologies and ideas are emerging that are quickly put into practice. Reliable partnerships, a can-do culture, as well as green electricity and developed land create ideal conditions for sustainable growth.
Sustainability is deeply embedded in the identity of this region. Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is a pioneer in climate and resource protection – for example through the rewilding of peatlands and the expansion of renewable energies. Agriculture, tourism and commerce demonstrate that ecological awareness, economic success and social responsibility can go hand in hand.
The state offers space for both living and working. Short commutes, free childcare, modern educational opportunities, and a strong scientific network featuring two universities with long-standing traditions and five innovative colleges provide security and prospects. Research ranges from satellite-based Earth observation to future technologies such as nuclear fusion.
The proximity to nature and water creates an exceptional quality of life. Whether on the Baltic Sea coast, amid lake landscapes, or in vibrant cities and culturally rich villages—art and culture are everywhere. Mecklenburg-Vorpommern combines tradition and the future, economic strength and natural beauty into a place that inspires, brings people together, and captivates—MV is the country to live in.
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is the place to live because:
For thousands of years, the Baltic Sea has connected people and cultures. Once traversed by Roman trade routes, it later became the foundation of medieval prosperity for the Hanseatic cities of Stralsund, Rostock, and Wismar. A connection that continues to shape us to this day.
The Baltic Sea is a lifeline, a trade route, and a space for the future all at once. A shifting geopolitical landscape called for new ways of working together. The solution? The MV Baltic Sea Strategy. With this strategy, the state government is actively shaping the democratic Baltic Sea region into a European model region for innovation, sustainability, and resilience.
The results have been impressive. The strategy brings together years of established cooperation in business, science, culture, and civil society. Since its launch in May 2024, new connections have been forming steadily. This is just one of the reasons why MV is a compelling place to live and innovate for years to come.
A bull's head, a griffin, and an eagle are united in our state coat of arms. The symbols of the regions of Mecklenburg and Vorpommern together represent Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's sovereign appearance.
The state flag in blue, white, yellow, and red symbolizes this interplay and echoes historic maritime flags and traditional Hanseatic cities. The large state coat of arms with its four fields is used by the state parliament and the highest state authorities, while the small coat of arms is used by the lower authorities.
In addition to flags and coats of arms, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern uses a state emblem. The logo symbolizes the diverse landscape: the blue of sky and water blends with the green of the forests and meadows, with rolling hills and the yellow of fields of flowering rapeseed.
This logo and the lettering “Mecklenburg-Vorpommern” form the state's emblem. It is used by the state marketing campaign “MV tut gut.” (MV does you good) and many of its partners. The slogan, the brand promise, promotes the strengths and potential of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
Schwerin is the state capital and seat of government, administration, and state parliament in Schwerin Castle – the seat of political decision-making. The legislature, executive, and judiciary form the state's governing authority, anchored in the state constitution since 1994. This regulates fundamental rights, state objectives, and state organization with a commitment to social community and economic progress. Through the Bundesrat, the state representation in Berlin, and the Brussels Information Office, MV actively shapes federal and EU policy. Five branches of jurisdiction and a state constitutional court uphold the rule of law.
